The PRISM Study

Pediatric Research Immune Network on SARS-CoV-2 and MIS-C

PRISM is a national study of children, adolescents, and young adults who have been infected with the SARS-CoV-2 virus resulting in COVID-19 and/or MIS-C, multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children. We will enroll a racial and ethnically diverse population from more than 20 children's hospitals and academic medical centers across the nation. The study population will represent the whole range of pediatric COVID-19 from those who are asymptomatic or mildly symptomatic to those requiring hospitalization and intensive care. The goals of PRISM are to describe the clinical course of SARS-CoV-2 infection in young people, to determine short and longer-term clinical outcomes including mortality and significant end-organ dysfunction, and to determine immunologic mechanisms and immune signatures associated with different phenotypes of disease presentation and outcomes. We believe the results from PRISM will provide valuable information regarding evidence-based prevention and therapeutic strategies which will improve the lives of affected children and their families.
